Lot 1
(1652) New England Shilling Noe 1-A Rarity-6+ PCGS graded XF45, CAC Approved. Glossy light to medium steel gray blending to darker gray in protected areas. The NE and XII are nearly complete and the only notable mark is a dull punch near the center of the reverse. Only 14 are known of this historically significant issue, and 6 of those are impounded in museums or other historical institutions. A great opportunity for the collector of early American coinage. Weight listed as 70.36 grains on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $150,000 - UP

Lot 2
1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-1 R3 PCGS graded XF40. An "IN at Left of Tree" type. Frosty light to medium silver fading to darker grayish steel in protected areas. Nicely centered on a nearly round planchet. The Oak Tree, date, and denomination are all strong. There is a minor wave or bend in the planchet that caused uneven wear on a few letters of the legend, but most of the letters are complete. This piece may have been struck more than once. A major portion of "ND" is clearly visible above the ND in ENGLAND, strongest above the N. A nice piece worth a close look. Listed on page 41 in the "Redbook." Weight listed as 72.07 grains on the PCGS label. Pop 4; 10 finer at PCGS. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

Lot 3
1783 Chalmers Shilling with Short Worm PCGS Graded XF45. Rather glossy light to medium gray and steel blending to slightly darker steel gray in the protected areas. Nicely centered and well struck. The only defects are a small punch mark near the device left of SHILLING and another at the dentils left of the first A in ANNAPOLIS. While these two marks are visible to the unaided eye they were not significant enough to keep the graders at PCGS from assigning a high grade to this rare colonial issue. Pop 8; 7 finer, 3 in 50, 2 in 53, 2 in 55. Estimate Value $9,000 - UP

(1785) Bar Cent Breen-1145 W-8520 Rarity-4 PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty steel brown and light olive with lighter brown toning faded down from mint color in protected areas. Sharply struck and virtually flawless, certainly one of the finest known (if not the finest). A gem example of this popular colonial copper that was circulating in New York circa 1785. Listed on pages 73 & 74 in the "Redbook." Pop 3; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. Estimate Value $100,000 - UP

Lot 8
1790 Standish Barry Threepence Breen-1019 NGC graded MS64, CAC Approved. Glossy light silvery gray with frosty lighter silver toning in the fields and protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and void of marks, and this piece has great eye appeal. Both dies are cracked, and the crack on the reverse actually bisects it from K-1 down to K-5.5. Nicely centered and well struck except for some weakness in the central part of the reverse. This is the finest example that has been certified, and the only finer piece known to us is a raw example that resides in the collection of the Maryland Historical Society. An outstanding piece for the advanced collector of early American coinage. And it comes with a nice provenance, as you would expect. Pop 1; the finest example graded at both services. Estimate Value $120,000 - UP

Lot 11
(1792) Washington Born Virginia with Stars over Eagle Breen-1236 Rarity-8- PCGS graded AU53. Copper with Plain Edge. Glossy dark chocolate brown and olive. The surfaces are smooth except for a bit of fine roughness and dirt nestled around the legend off the tip of the bust. The only contact marks are a minor rim bruise off the bust tip and another under the shoulder, and neither mark is at all distracting. This variant of the Washington Born Virginia Cent is extremely rare and remains unpriced in the "Redbook." Only three examples are known, and this example is the finest of the group by a significant margin. One of the three is impounded in the Massachusetts Historical Society and this may be the only example in private hands today. A great candidate for a superior collection of early American coinage. Comes with a significant provenance. Weight 174.1 grains, 30.2mm diameter. The only example graded at both services. Estimate Value $180,000 - UP

Lot 12
1787 Fugio Cent Newman 13-X Rarity-2 NGC graded MS61 Brown. A STATES UNITED variety. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas. The only defects are some shallow planchet laminations on both sides, the largest of these at the bottom of the U in FUGIO (as struck). Planchet flaws such as these are quite common on FUGIO Cents. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state FUGIO Cents. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
